 Duong Pog-Naa Hands Over Modern Accommodation and Adolescent Health Reproductive Centre to Duong Health Center

Pognaa Rosemary Bangzie Munwillima, the Queen Mother of Duong Traditional Area, commissioned and handed over a two-bedroom accommodation and an Adolescent Health Reproductive Centre to the staff of Duong Health Center. The event, which took place on Thursday, September 14th, 2023, was attended by esteemed guests and community members.

The newly inaugurated health center is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including ancillary amenities such as a 2-bedroom accommodation for nurses, consulting rooms, and washrooms. This project was made possible through the visionary efforts of Queen Mother, who utilized her lobbying skills to secure funding and support.

Expressing her gratitude,Pognaa RoseMary extended her appreciation to USAID, the Sons and Daughters of Duong, and all individuals who contributed to the realization of the project. She particularly acknowledged the contributions of Brain Seidu, Pascal Zuyaare, Bunas Company LTD, Bill Clinical Laboratory, Lawyer Thaddeus Sory, Hon. Anthony Mwinikaara Sumah (MP for Nadowli Kaleo constituency), and Zacchi N. Sabogu for their generous donations of cement and support.

The Queen Mother, who also serves as the adolescent health focal person for the Upper West Region, explained that the idea for the multipurpose health project was conceived during a general meeting with chiefs, elders, and community members on January 28th. It was during this period that she underwent leadership training and discussions on topics such as conflict resolution and violent extremism, organized by USAID/OTI Littorals initiative in partnership with the Otumfo center for traditional leaders.

The Adolescent Health Reproductive Centre attached to the health center aims to enhance accessibility to healthcare services and address the specific health and social needs of adolescents. Pognaa RoseMary emphasized her passion for adolescent health and child empowerment as the driving force behind this addition to the project.

Despite the successful completion of the health center, the Queen Mother appealed for further support. She requested assistance in providing furniture for the rooms, establishing a kitchen for the nurses, and renovating the old CPHS compound structure, which is in dire need of repair.

The guest of honor at the event was Hon. Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister, who commended the efforts of  Pognaa RoseMary and praised the significant impact the health center will have on the community.

The commissioning and handover of the modern accommodation and Adolescent Health Reproductive Centre showcased the dedication and commitment of Queen Mother improving the health and well-being of the Duong Traditional Area. The project stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and community-driven initiatives in creating positive change.
