The Honorable Vida Sebnyoora Diorotey, the current District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wa West, is the epitome of a transformational leader. Her unwavering dedication towards education, women empowerment, and community development has inspired many and earned her the title "Mother for All."

In the heart of the Upper West Region of Ghana, a remarkable woman has emerged as a beacon of hope and empowerment for her community. Hon. Vida Diorotey, affectionately known as "Sebnyoora," has blazed a trail of success and service, from her humble beginnings as a farmer's daughter to becoming the first female District Chief Executive (DCE) of Wa West. Her journey is a testament to hard work, perseverance, and a deep commitment to community development.

                  Early Life's History:

 

                                 

Born and raised in the farming community of Jenbob, Hon. Vida Diorotey witnessed the toil and determination of her parents (in blessed memory) Mr. Propereh Diorotey and Nma Diorotey Tulo, who were peasant farmers and petty traders. Their unwavering dedication to their work instilled in her a strong work ethic and a desire to make a difference in her community.

Education and Professional Work History:

Hon. Vida Diorotey's pursuit of knowledge began at Jenbob R/C Primary School from 1979-1986. Shortly, she sat for the Late Entrance Examinations in 1986, where she excelled academically.

Having passed the Late Entrance Examinations, Hon. Diorotey gained admission into St. Francis Girls Secondary School in September, 1986. As a result of her hard work, perseverance and commitment towards her studies both at home and in school, she eventually completed her Secondary School Education 1991 and came out with flying colours. She was awarded with a Secondary School Certificate, earning to herself and her family the enviable feat of becoming the first girl to have achieved such a great feat in the Jenbob community and the entire Lassia Tuolu Parish at the time.

TERTIARY EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL WORK HISTORY

                                             

Determined to impart knowledge and positive values to the younger generation, she pursued teacher training education at St. John Bosco's Teacher Training College, Navrongo in the Upper East Region in September, 1993. Hon. Diorotey was trained as a Professional Teacher and consequently graduated successfully with a 3-Year Post Secondary School Certificate in 1996.

Upon successful completion, she was first posted to Babile L/A Primary School in the then Lawra District as a Classroom Teacher in September, 1996.

Throughout her stay at Babile, she carried out her professional tasks of imparting knowledge, supporting the moral upbringing of the learners and general community development initiatives from 1996 to 1997 with passion, professionalism, dedication, diligence and commitment.

In September, 1997 she was transferred from Babile R/C Primary School to Dornye R/C JHS to join her husband, Mr. Nor Clement Puo-Uro (In blessed memory) who was then the Heateacher of the School.

Hon. Diorotey was assigned to teach English Language and Social Studies over the period at the Junior Secondary School level.

From 1997 to 1998, Hon. Diorotey taught a great number of  constituents who are currently occupying various important positions and making impart across the Wa West District and even beyond.

From 1999 to 2001, Hon. Vida Diorotey took up an appointment at the then Lassia Tuolu Agricultural Project on Secondment as the Women In Development Officer (WID).During the period of her engagement, she was specifically assigned for the     Formation and Coordination of Women Groups in the beneficiary communities across the district and  even beyond.

 In this position, she built the capacity of women to be self reliant, develop their skills to engage in various economic activities and support their community peoples towards socio-economic empowerment.

She equally worked assiduously and primarily to empower and improve upon the needs and welfare of girls and women in general. Her role over the period saw a renewed transformation in the leadership roles and responsibilities of women at the local communities.

Having met her expectations to the admiration of the Organization and the Donors, Hon. Vida Diorotey was called back to join the teaching profession, her most cherished job. She officially left the Organization after her Secondment elapsed in August, 2001.

She was subsequently re-engaged in the Ghana Education Service as a teaching staff after her Secondment and was reposted to Lassia Tuolu R/C Primary School as a Classroom Teacher from September, 2001 to September, 2004.

In Lassia R/C Primary School, she performed her routine roles with optimum dedication and professionalism. Her contributions brought a record increase in the enrollment, attendance, and retention of learners, most especially girls over the period. This solid foundation saw a sustained increment in attendance, retention and improved academic performance of learners, and most especially Girls, in Basic Schools over the period.

In September, 2005 she was appointed as the District Girl-Child Education Officer in the Wa West District Education Directorate. She was scheduled to synchronize all activities of Basic and Second Cycle institutions across the Wa West District Education Directorate into a coherent whole.

In 2010, she left for further studies at the University of Education, Winneba and came out successfully with a Bachelor of Education Degree Certificate. She continued to serve in the District Education Office, Wechiau until 2018 where   sought to re-join the teaching category so as to continue to nurture and groom future transformational leaders to be useful and responsible persons in their communities.

Consequently, she was appointed as a Substantive Headteacher in September, 2018 and posted to Kachiau R/C KG/Primary School in the Wechiau South Circuit.

 She served in that capacity until August 2021, when she was re-assigned to the Wa West District Education Office as the District Basic/Second Cycles Institutions Coordinator.

 

      FAMILY AND MORE

Hon. Vida Diorotey is blessed with 4 sons and over 10 other sons and daughters under her care.

She is a mother to many and role model and mentor to upcoming young men and women hoping to take up various public and political positions.

 Her charismatic, humble and approachable demeamor earned to herself a respectable status, hence being referred to as "Mother For All" by her Constituents.

     POLITICAL OFFICES HELD

                             

1. Two (2) times Assembly Member, Wa West District Assembly (Government Appointee) from 2008 to 2012.

2. Constituency Women Organizer (NPP), Wa West from 2006 to 2020 (consistently until voluntary resignation in 2020). 

3. District Chief Executive, Wa West from 2021 to Date. Hon. Diorotey was appointed by H.E. the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the First Female District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wa West since its creation in 2004; a position she is still occupying.

 

                      FUTURE PLANS

In the shortest possible time, Hon. Vida Diorotey seeks:

1. To be a Mentor and Role Module to the upcoming youth and most especially girls and women who wish to venture into various public leadership positions, including politics, to contribute to the development of their communities.

2. To build on the solid foundation laid by her over tge years those initiated by her predecessors to speedup socio-economic growth and development across all sectors of the District economy.

 

                                                                               

3. To bridge the gap between women and men in politics and other economic and social leadership positions and platforms to ensure a well balanced society where everyone contributes to community development initiatives.

                    VISION

In the foreseeable future, Hon. Vida Diorotey hopes to represent the good people of the Wa West Constituency in the Parliament of Ghana to contribute to the growth and development of the Wa West Constituency, the Upper West Region and Ghana at large.
