Hon. Vida Diorotey Becomes First Woman to Wrestle for Wa West Parliamentary Seat After 19 Years of All Male Affairs

In a historic move Hon. Vida Diorotey Seb-Nyorah, the first-ever female District Chief Executive for the Wa West district, is set to make history once again, as a group of men and women, known as the "Friends of Hon. DVS," have on Firaday  4th August, 2023, picked nomination forms on her behalf, enabling her to contest the NPP Wa West parliamentary primaries scheduled for November 4, 2023.

Having previously served as the NPP Wa West Constituency Women Organizer, Hon. Vida  has shattered another glass ceiling by becoming the first woman to pick forms and announce her intention to contest the party's parliamentary primaries.

This achievement comes after a staggering 19 years of male dominance in both the NDC and NPP parties in the Wa West constituency.

On November 9, 2021, Hon. Vida Diorotey Seb-Nyorah received overwhelming support from 73.2% of the 41-member Assembly of the Wa West district. This resounding vote of confidence confirmed her position as the first-ever female District Chief Executive since the district was carved out of the then Wa district approximately 20 years ago.

Hon. Vida Diorotey Seb-Nyorah's bid for the Wa West parliamentary seat has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, capturing the attention and support of party faithful. As the first woman to challenge the long-standing male dominance in the constituency, she carries the hopes and aspirations of many who believe in gender equality and the power of representation.

Hailing from Jenbob  under the Ga electoral area, Hon. Vida is poised to make history once more as she becomes the 6th DCE of the Wa West District Assembly since its creation on February 14, 2004, during the 2ND NPP regime led by former President John Agyekum Kufuor. Her nomination filing is scheduled for Sunday, August 6, 2023

If successful in the NPP Wa West parliamentary primaries, Hon. Vida Diorotey Seb-Nyorah will not only break the gender barrier but also pave the way for more women to actively participate in politics, challenging the status quo and shaping a more inclusive future for the constituency.

As the November 4, 2023, parliamentary primaries draw closer, all eyes will be on Hon. Vida Diorotey Seb-Nyorah and her historic campaign. The outcome of this groundbreaking endeavor will undoubtedly shape the political landscape of Wa West and potentially inspire women across the country to step up and claim their rightful place in the halls of power.
