 Radio Progress Upper West Music Awards Scheme opens nominations for Prumas 23

In an exciting development for the Upper West music industry, Radio Progress, the premier community radio station in Northern Ghana, is set to host the 9th edition of the Radio Progress Upper West Music Awards Scheme, popularly known as Prumas, with nominations now open, the event promises to be a celebration of talent, resilience, and unity in the local music industry.

The theme for this year's Prumas is "Celebrating Resilience, Peace, and Unity: Empowering Industry in a Transformative Era." It reflects the importance of promoting peace and unity through music while acknowledging the challenges faced by the industry and the determination to overcome them.

                      History of Prumas

                  

Radio Progress Upper West Music Awards Scheme [PRUMAS] is a prestigious music awards scheme that was established in 2014 in the Upper West Region of Ghana with Prince Karim wining the best Artist of the year awards and eight [8] other Artists received awards in various categories.

The scheme was initiated by Radio Progress, a local radio station, with a vision: to promote and recognize the outstanding talents of musicians in the Upper West Region.

The mission: of the Radio Progress Upper West Music Awards Scheme is to create a platform for showcasing the immense talent of musicians in the Upper West Region.

Prumas offers artists the opportunity to compete in seventeen categories, including prestigious awards such as Artist(s) of the Year, Hiplife Artist(s) of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Artist(s) of the Year, and New/Promising Artist(s) of the Year. Other categories include Best Collaboration of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, Highlife Song of the Year, and Most Popular Song of the Year, among others.

           

The nomination period for Prumas 23 runs from November 1st to December 1st, 2023. Artists can download the nomination forms online at www.radioprogressonline.com or collect hard copies from the front desk of Radio Progress between 8 am and 6 pm daily, free of charge. This inclusive approach ensures that all talented artists in the Upper West Region have an equal opportunity to showcase their work.

The Prumas 23 journey will span several months, with various exciting activities planned to engage both artists and fans. The vetting of the nominees' songs is scheduled for December 9th, 2023, followed by the unveiling of the nominees on December 21st, 2023. This will undoubtedly create anticipation and excitement among the music community.

Voting for the awards will commence on January 20th, 2024, allowing the general public to have their say in determining the winners. To further engage the audience, a Nominees Jam is also scheduled for the same day, providing a platform for artists to showcase their talents and interact with their fans.

                    

One of the highlights of Prumas 23 will be the Float, set to take place on April 12th, 2024. This grand procession will celebrate the nominated artists and their contributions to the music industry, creating a vibrant atmosphere of joy and unity.

Finally, the much-anticipated awards night will take place on April 13th, 2024, where the winners will be announced and honored for their exceptional achievements. The event will be a culmination of months of hard work, talent, and dedication from the Upper West music community.

Prumas 23 aims to recognize and honor the outstanding talent within the Upper West Region while promoting peace, unity, and resilience through music. As the industry continues to evolve, this event stands as a testament to the determination and spirit of the local music community.
